Am directed by Governor and Commander-in-Chief to inform you that after having consulted with the Consul-General, Kwantung, he telegraphed to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and to the British Minister, Peking, recommending that the extra troops in South China should be reduced to one battalion, detachment mule corps, and one section of guns, Urge very strongly that present additional troops should be relieved as soon as possible by fresh reduced number. Please telegraph permission to inform present troopa accordingly.
